WebScoopsPortal PE - our Personal Edition - consists of an initial set of pages, the games and accessories that accompany and are an integral part of these, the Editor that you use to design and generate these pages, and the database that stores your layouts.  

WebScoopsPortal PE helps you to manage your use of the Web and your PC, and to organize your life. 

With the Editor, you can design your own set of portal pages (running locally on your own PC - no web server required) and display on these pages other web pages, documents and folders (through Web Ports), and Link Sets, which can contain hypertext links and descriptions or just text, e.g. names and phone numbers.  These portal pages provide you with your personal window onto the web and your own PC-based information - giving you easy access to information you use regularly and even displays of many information sources all together on one page: weather information, share prices, sports results, etc. - whatever you choose. 

The Editor lets you:

• Create, edit or delete portal pages.  Each page has its own name.  The page order is defined by you.
• Create, edit or delete Web Ports - frames that display other web pages, documents or PC folders.  These can be placed on the portal pages.
• Create, edit or delete Link Sets - sets of links to other web pages, documents or PC folders, together with descriptions (optional).  Each Link Set has its own title.  These Link Sets can be placed on the portal pages,
• Specify the layout of a particular portal page - define the number of columns and specify which Web Ports and Link Sets should be placed in these columns, and in which order.
• Change the overall appearance or style of the pages - header, footer, default text size, default text font, title bar background colour and title bar text colour.

The predefined accessories, such as the Reminder and Diary, and the Memo, can provide you with further tools to help you organize your life - personal or business

Technical information

The web pages generated by the Editor, and the games and accessories, have been run and tested on Microsoft's Internet Explorer 5 and Netscape 6 on Windows PCs running Windows 98 and Windows 2000.

The Editor has been tested on Windows PCs running Windows 98 and Windows 2000.

The Editor application and database were developed using the excellent LPA WIN-PROLOG 4040  (http://www.lpa.co.uk)
